A note from Kaleigh Burks:
My name is Kaleigh Burks, I am a cadet with the Malden Girl Scout troop 72013, I created this buddy bench for my Silver Award. I chose this project because I know what it feels like to feel alone or left out. Growing up, I sometimes struggled to make friends and felt different because of my ADHD.
I created this bench so no child has to sit alone. I hope it helps kids make friends, feel included, and know that there is always someone who wants to play. Even a small act of kindness can make a big difference.
I came up with the design for the buddy bench from the book The Crayon Box That Talked. The last part of the book says We are a box of crayon each one of us unique but when we get together the picture is complete. I feel thats how we should view our friendships.
I put many many hours into designing and building this bench. From planning it, picking out paint, sawing, sanding, painting and finally puting it together. My hope is that the kids love it and it bring many friendships together for many years.
